- Yoko Ozawa began working on this entry piece ‘Budding,2024’ in her cold winter studio, feeling the gradually warming spring air. Her lifelong concept, the Japanese notion of 余白 yohaku (blank space), also called 間 Ma, is an exploration of the space between objects and the gaps in time. It interconnects the traces of the elements, the season, signs of decay and time passing, and the emotional shifts we as humans experience through our bodies’ connection with place and nature. This sensation in everyday life enhances our connection with many ecosystems that look forward to a new vital springtime.
