- Soulmates celebrates enduring connection through the tawny frogmouth, a bird that mates for life. Unlike most species, the pair builds the nest together, incubates the eggs, and feeds their chicks side by side. Their bond is intimate and physical: they roost touching on the same branch, and males have been seen gently grooming females with their beaks. In a world increasingly marked by division and hate, I chose to honour this quiet devotion. Painted on porcelain, the work draws inspiration from nineteenth-century scientific illustration, blending observation, tenderness, and reverence for an Australian native bird, and enduring hope for shared humanity.
