- Artist Statement
- “Gridlines” These porcelain wall ‘sketches’ stem from my experiments with the materiality, structural limits, and translucency of porcelain to create unconventional ceramic forms. Left unglazed to highlight its raw beauty, each piece is hand-formed from fine porcelain slabs, built up through hundreds of brushstrokes. The firing process subtly distorts each piece, making the balance between my intent and the kiln’s unpredictably an essential part of the final form. I enjoy the continuously shifting shadows they produce, and I find comfort in the sense of containment created by the repetition, boundaries, and intersections of the gridlines.
