- Artist Statement
- Silk State forms part of an ongoing investigation into the visual and material cultures of statehood. The work draws on both traditional and contemporary media processes, alongside the values and political hierarchies historically attached to forms such as carpet weaving, embroidery, folk painting, photography, and digital media. Developed between Sydney and the UK during a residency at Acme Studios, London, it belongs to the broader body of work "Statecraft": a diary of crossing borders and moving through territorial and psychological states while locating the self within history and geography.
