- Artist Statement
- Settlement #9 from the Settlement and the Gatekeeprs series aims to present the gate as a sign that tells a story about access and inclusion and shows how privileges are protected. The work begins with purchasing a second had gate to modify. A gates value becomes an adaptable commodity when set adrift without a building or a fence to support its occupation. Yet their histories stay embedded within the form. My aim is that the work can prompt the viewer to think about why dismantling historical excluding systems is important to shaping new individual and collective narratives.
