- Artist Statement
- In my hybrid works, painting and sculpture share traits in mutual interdependence. They form through a collage-like process, with three-dimensional components built from flat planes. The works result from material experiments with clay, paint, and textiles, which accumulate and layer into surface and support-like structures. They are made simultaneously to accommodate each other, becoming support systems to house and enfold. Studio scraps are re-worked, and errors and inconsistencies that arise in the making process are harnessed to create new starting points. Works defy definition by their materials or form, the relationship between their parts non-hierarchical and interconnected.
