- My painting of Lucy Culliton pays tribute to one of Australia’s most influential landscape and portrait artists. Lucy’s deep connection to the Australian countryside has long inspired me; her ability to merge figure and landscape speaks to something primal and uniquely Australian. Living on a vast rural property in NSW, she does not simply paint the land—she lives it. This work reflects our shared love of landscape painting at a time when the land is under pressure from climate change and increasing urban disconnection. In portraying Lucy, I sought to present her as an embodiment of country itself—luminous and enduring.
