- 'Lachlan Swamp Bats, 590nm', documents the Centennial Park’s grey-headed flying-fox colony in 590nm infrared. Captured using a full spectrum converted camera, the foliage in the image is rendered ghostly white, with chlorophyll in plants reflecting infrared in a manner similar to visible light on snow. Looking up into the canopy, the delicate white forms of the branches look almost lace-like, the semi-abstracted bats like black jewels. Looking beyond the visible light spectrum, this series continues artist Michaela Gleave’s exploration of the peripheries of human knowledge and perception, connecting audiences with the vastness of the natural world.
