- Artist Statement
- “Daphne & Apollo: the Devine truth” draws on classical reference without fixing its meaning. Forms settle into recognisable poses, while a third presence lingers as a shadow, unsettling any sense of completion. The bodies appear contained and immobile, while meaning unfolds at the edges. Stitched words bloom into varied flowers, shifting species as they grow, proposing identity as something cultivated rather than assigned. Like Daphne’s transformation, gender here is not rigid or binary, but adaptive, relational, and self-directed. The work asks viewers to unlearn stereotypes and allow difference to flourish without fear.
