- Detailed Instructions for the setup of your instillation / sculpture
- PLEASE NOTE: the soaps are individually secured (with strong rare earth magnets) to a custom-made board which is first mounted on the wall to a cleat. 1. Consult images and numbered map to assist with installation (detailed images and map accompanies work) 2. Locate the frame on the wall at the desired height. Ideally, the centre of the piece should be approximately160cm from the floor. Once location is decided, mark the wall at the top of the frame. Measure from top of frame to cleat to determine where to attach cleat to wall. 3. The frame is secured to the wall using a cleat hanging system (see images below). 4. If screwing into a plasterboard wall, Ideally if 2 screws can go into a wall stud (either the 2 left hand side or the 2 right hand side) it would provide extra support for securing the piece to the wall. 5. Hang the frame on to the cleat. 6. Once the frame is hanging securely, begin attaching the soaps. On the reverse side of each porcelain soap is a rare earth magnet (THESE MAGNETS ARE EXTREMELY STRONG THE PIECES OF SOAP WILL BE ATTRACTED TO ONE ANOTHER WHEN PILED TOGETHER). On the reverse side of each soap is a number. 7. Start at the top, and place the soap # 1, there are small holes punched into the board, indicating the placement of the magnets/soaps. Then following the numbered map go on to place and position the remaining soaps. NOTE: the pieces of metal embedded in the frame, which each of the soaps attach to, are approximately the size of a 10c piece. The pieces therefore, have some flexibility to be adjusted slightly and moved to reflect how they appear on the map and in the image.

- Constellation of cleanliness continues is an exploration into the poetic potential of the simple and ubiquitous bar of soap. A small yet quietly powerful object Moulds are created of discarded cake soap in various states of decay, creviced, weathered and barely there slivers, objects recalling the traces of an individuals touch. The soaps are cast in porcelain, carved, sanded, grimed and fired numerous times. These intimate objects speaking of the body, cleanliness and rituals of comfort and care. Through the process of slip casting, the porcelain casts remember the almost obsolete objects; the liquid slip solidifies becoming a precise memory of a past form - a ghost. Scentless and forever preserved in porcelain.
