- Everybody loves tjeperr—good tucker, this one. We’d go with our mothers to Nitmingany creek, walking through muddy mangroves, searching for tjeperr beneath our feet. Sometimes they’d bury themselves deep, and our feet would get stuck in the mud! We’d collect bucket loads, taking turns carrying them back. Sometimes we'd cook them on coals, other times in a big billy of salty sea water. We'd eat together, sharing stories or enjoying the silence, busy eating. Through my art, I honour my family, culture, and Country, adding my voice to these stories.
