Artist Statement
Dorrie Jones Pitjara was born at Macdonald Downs Station, where her mother, Topsy Jones was also born. She now lives in Arawerr with her family where she practices traditional ways. Dorrie tells her families Bush Medicine story through painting techniques, conveying detail and depth. Her practice has a strong focus on the bush flower, layering the white flower over a detailed coloured background. "I was born in Macdonald Downs Station. I now live in Arawerr with my family. My paintings are of the Bush Medicine story. The story of our Country, Arawerr. I'm painting the bush flower, comes in the hot time. It's a big flower. It has small honey inside. Topsy, my mother taught me how to collect Bush Medicine. We all teach one another."
