- Research on the bull ant reveals complex navigatory skills due to her extraordinary vision. Macro photographs from in-situ practice are montaged to interpret this ant’s visual experience, incorporating her colour spectrum of green and blue, with ultraviolet seen with a black light. The “scientific gaze” has historically employed vision as an instrument of power to lay claim to objective truth. Objectivity can be repositioned through a postmodern feminist lens as ‘critical vision’ to serve as a means of transformative deconstruction – challenging dualisms by revealing interconnectedness, resistance, and complicity. As this ant looks back at me, what is she thinking?
