Advancing art and opportunity.

Across Australia each year, up to 70% of art school graduates are female. However, when it comes to gallery exhibitions and prizes, female artists represent substantially less than half. In fact, State museums showed just 34% of female artists amongst their collection.

The Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize is an initiative led by Ravenswood School for Girls to address this shortfall.

As a long-term strategy and focus for the community, the prize will provide a platform to inspire, promote and connect female visual artists and assist in the development of emerging and professional artists, whilst giving current students opportunities to explore the potential of a career in art.

The role of creative arts in education is profound and enduring. Creating art crosses many disciplines, industries and careers, providing meaningful social and financial benefit to communities and economies.

It is the vision of Ravenswood School for Girls, and the mission of the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize, to amplify the relevance and reality of careers in art for generations of Australian women to come.
